Emily Tsuhako is passionate about the impact of vocal music, particularly in its ability to evoke emotion and create human connections through music and meaningful text. Emily is a 2018 graduate of Maui High School. In 2022, she received her Bachelors of Music Education from the University of North Texas and returned to Maui High School as the Director of Choral Activities. Her responsibilities include conducting the Concert, Chamber and Show Choir Ensembles.
In addition to this, Ms. Tsuhako serves as the Assistant Band Director at Maui High School. Her responsibilities include working with the marching band, as well as with the concert and symphonic band flutes. Ms. Tsuhako has studied both instrumental and vocal pedagogy, with concentrations in flute and voice. Her teachers include Margaret Schecter, Hyunsu Yoon, Mary Karen Clardy, Megan Stapleton, and Jessica Ferring Glenn.
Ms. Tsuhako is an accomplished flutist and vocalist, and has performed with the University of North Texas Green Brigade, University Band, Wind Ensemble, Women’s Chorus, and University Singers. Through her experience at North Texas, she has participated in multiple world premieres, including Infinite Movement by Shara Nova.
Ms. Tsuhako is also employed as a health teacher at Maui High School. She also teaches voice privately to students of varying ages and skill levels.
Ms. Tsuhako has previously participated in the North Texas Music Educators Association as the Elementary Music Representative, and in Mu Phi Epsilon as the Service Project Head Person. She is currently a member of the Texas Music Educators Association.
